RooF or a computer at home?
We do not quote hardware prices we cannot source. These are differences in approach, plus what a local PC still does better today.
| Item | RooF | A local PC |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to start | Nothing: 3 free minutes, then welcome credit | The full price of the machine up front |
| How you pay | $0.05/hour by the minute, or a monthly plan | Once, then power, repairs and parts |
| Updates & upkeep | On us; every session starts clean | On you |
| On any screen | Phone, tablet, TV and computer | On that machine only |
| If your device is lost | Your files in RooF-Drive are not lost with it | Files without a backup are gone |
What a local PC still does better today
- Working offline: RooF needs a steady connection.
- Windows, Office and heavy games today: coming to RooF, not launched yet.
- Sound, printers and USB devices: not supported inside a session yet.
Before you pay
Short answers about balance, plans and classes.
How is time counted?
By the minute: each started minute costs $0.05 divided by 60, under a tenth of a cent. End the session and billing stops at once; nothing is charged while the computer is off.10
What if my balance runs out mid-session?
The session ends on its own when your available balance runs out, and your files stay in RooF-Drive. Starting a session needs balance for at least two minutes.11
Does a plan renew automatically?
No. A plan is 30 days paid from your balance; if you buy again before it ends, the new period starts when the current one ends, so no days are lost.12
What exactly does a plan include?
Linux desktop sessions with no hour meter for 30 days, and the number of computers at once shown on the plan. Other computers (games, design) will be priced at launch.
Who pays in a classroom?
The teacher chooses when creating the class: they pay for every seat, or each student pays for their own. A seat is $0.05 per hour.
How do I pay?
Top up today with a code from [email protected] and enter it on the balance page. Card payments go live soon, and we will say so here.
Does my balance expire?
There is no expiry date on your account balance. Prices are in US dollars and introductory until full launch.
